Young Playwrights Festival Tonight!
"One usually dislikes a play while writing it, but afterward it grows on one. Let others judge and make decisions." -Anton Chekhov
The art of play writing is, like so many other artistic endeavors, a process. And the staged reading, when an author's words come to life for the first time, is an essential part of that process.
Tonight, Tuesday evening, August 5, TriArts will be unveiling the 10-minute plays of the eight winning playwrights in our Young Playwrights Festival! Representing Berkshire, Dutchess and Litchfield Counties, each playwright has been mentored by a published playwright and each reading will be directed by a theatre professional with a cast of professionals and locals.
This festival represents the chance for budding talents to have a venue for their development and encouragement. The Young Playwrights Festival exemplifies how TriArts strives to encourage the arts through its commitment to educational programming. The kids are thrilled to have their plays chosen for a performance on our stage.
As Stephen Sondheim once wrote, "The last collaborator is your audience...when the audience comes in, it changes the temperature of what you've written." Please join us tonight (Tuesday) at 7:00 pm at the Sharon Playhouse for this very exciting TriArts event. From the Young Playwrights Festival committee: Michael Berkeley, Pamela Chassin, Deann Halper and Edie Schechter.

A Timeless Story, Perfect for Our Time
Winner of the Drama Desk, Grammy and four 2000 Tony Awards, including Best Original Musical Score, Aida bursts with energy. Based on the beloved Verdi opera, this story of forbidden and unrequited love colorfully chronicles the timeless triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both desire.
It’s an epic tale of love, loyalty, and betrayal. As Director Sarah Combs points out, “It’s also a story about love of country, love of one’s people. It’s about hope and courage. The score features Elton John’s driving rhythms and melodic ballads, and there’s an explosion of onstage color from the costumes, scenery and lighting.”

FAMILY FRIDAYS!
Just $20 per adult $10 per child
We want everyone to experience the excitement, the drama, (not to mention the sword fights), that is AIDA. Come with the children. Come with the grandchildren. Just don’t miss out this powerful production.
Tell the kids to get off their computers, get away from the TV, quit texting messages and instead experience live theatre! You don’t have to go the Broadway and spend your nest egg to do it.
Just read what TriArts Board President, David Sims, had to say about bringing his grandkids to the show.
Jennifer and I along took our grandchildren, Audrey (age 7) and Hawkins (4) to the AIDA dress rehearsal on Wednesday. We were worried that the whole show would just be too long for them and I didn't want to chance it at a regular performance. Boy was I wrong! Hawkins had a fit when we suggested he couldn't stay for Act II-So we stayed and they loved it!! I should say we all loved it!!!
This is a performance for the entire family.
The story itself is absorbing; the voices are wonderful; the scenery and sets are terrific and the dancing the best we have done.
Call the box Office at 860-364-SHOW (7469) X. 201 and say you want to come for Family Friday. (Based on availability). Curtain is 8 pm
