10 Reasons to go see The Wedding Singer
at TriArts — Opens June 24th

1. Simply Wed, the wedding singer’s band, is composed (ahem) of real musicians! Robbie (Rich Krakowski) sings, naturally, Sammy (Jared Weiss) is a bass/guitar player, George (Jordan Stanley) plays keyboard and keetar, and Jim (Seth Eliser) is on the drums. They will rock your world, 80’s style!

2. You, too, will fall in love with Julia, the sweet waitress who is played by Caitlyn Caughell. No surprise she appeared as Juliet in production of Romeo and Juliet.

3. Lauren Calhoun, who plays Holly is hotness personified, and her homage to Jessica Biel in Flashdance doesn’t douse the flames!

4. You get to hear Robbie say to his ex Linda, memorably played by Heather Holohan, “Please get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.”

5. Where else can you go to three weddings and a bar mitzvah without leaving your seat? However choreographer MK Lawson will have you wishing you could hustle up on the dance floor. What a Thriller!

6. You didn’t realize that the 80’s are now considered a “period” but you’ll love the brilliant satire of this decadent decade and even shed a tear at the sweet love story set within it.

7. The music samples the best of 80’s pop, from Boy George to Madonna, from the Police to Billy Idol. “Do you really want to hurt me?” Then don’t miss this show!

8. The live 8-piece orchestra led by Artistic Director Michael Berkeley includes oboe, English horn, tenor and alto sax, along with bass, drums and keyboard and will have you tripping down memory lane, or at least checking out Flock of Seagulls on You Tube.

9. A rapping granny, hilariously played by Emily Soell, buys her grandson, Robbie, a vibrating bed as a wedding present. “I got it at the Hackensack Motel 6…got a quarter?”

10. The show is directed by John Simpkins, hot off directing the three time Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway production of  Bloodsong of Love: The Rock’N’Roll Spaghetti Western. John is also a member of the music theatre faculty at New York University (Steinhardt School), and directed Forum at TriArts last summer to great critical acclaim.
